| A device for measuring the intensity of light. Electrons are liberated at a photocathode when light falls upon it, through the operation of the photoelectric effect. The current is amplified by a cascade process in which the electrons strike a series of secondary emitters. Photomultipliers are used particularly in photoelectric photometry. |
